Orange River : Travel Information and Accommodation

Noordoewer
The border post to South Africa at Noordoewer is open daily at all hours, Tel 063-297122. The border-crossing procedure usually goes smooth, also in Vioolsdrif on the South African side. But during the South African school holidays long queues must be expected.
Shopping facilities are limited, in Noordoewer as well as in Vioolsdrif. Some accommodation is available. To Springbok, the nearest town in South Africa with ample accommodation, it is 80 kilometres south on the N7.

Road to Rosh Pinah
The 160 kilometre long stretch from Noordoewer along the Orange to the mining town of Rosh Pinah is usually well drivable despite its sandy condition. A four-wheel drive is not absolutely necessary (although definitely more pleasant). But one should enquire about the road condition at the police in Noordoewer, especially if it has been raining. There is no accommodation, shopping, fuel availabe along the entire route. Camping is great, however. From Rosh Pinah it is another 170 kilometres on tar before one gets to the B4 in Aus towards Luederiz or Keetmanshoop. |

/Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park
In tune with the merging of the Fish River Park (Namibia) and the Richtersveld Park (South Africa) to the trans-border /Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier National Park in 2007, the border post near Sendelingsdrift has been opened for tourists. A small car ferry operates daily between 9 and 17:00 and take vehicles with a max. weight of 6 tons across the Orange.
