Keetmanshoop : Travel Information and Accommodation
|
Sights
Keetmanshoop Museum The museum in the old Mission Church displays exhibits of the natural history, historical documents of the town and the Nama culture. Adjacent, there is a garden with succulents. The museum is open on weekdays from 8h00 to 12h30 and from 14h00 to 17h00. No entrance fee. Tel 063-221256.
Gariganus Quivertree Forest The best time to photograph the Quiver trees on the Farm Gariganus is at sunset. The farm lies some 13 kms north-east of Keetmanshoop and the untarred access is well sign-posted. The so-called "Giants' Playground" lies next to the Quivertree Forest. A walking trail of less than an hour leads through a bizarre rocky terrain. Not really a must!
Accommodation on the farm is offered in plastic igloos, not very comfortable and a bit stuffy. A campground is also available, clean but very simple. The accommodation options in Keetmanshoop town are much nicer.
//Garas Quivertree Campsite Another, no less impressive "Quivertree Forest" lies directly on the B1, 20 kilometres north of Keetmanshoop. A plain campgropund. Tel 063-223217. |
