Helmeringhausen
80 kilometres north of Bethanien lies the tiny place Helmeringhausen. A soldier of the German Schutztruppe bought here 10,000 hectares of farmland which he named after his German hometown in Westphalia. Later te farm achieved some affluence with breeding Karakul sheep.
Besides a store, petrol station and a hotel, there is also an open-air museum exhibiting agricultural equipment from colonial times, for example, a water drilling machine; of greatest importance to the farmers of that time.

The Hotel Helmeringhausen is an excellent stop-over. Here the traveller can get insider information, and very good food at the hotel's restaurant. Opposite the hotel, on the other side of the main road, there is a small roadhouse and coffee shop, offering delicious pancakes, biltong and honey. For hotel guest there is also a tennis court available.
