Malaria Prophylaxis
The Caprivi, the entire north-east of Namibia and the neighbouring countries of Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe is malaria zone. Especially in the rainy season one should take prophylactic medicine well in advance and - when in the area - protect oneself from being stung by mosquitos (with clothes, repellants and mosquito nets) in the first place.
Driving through the Caprivi
A trip through the Caprivi nowadays does not entail particular difficulties or dangers. A four-wheel-drive is, at least up to Katima Mulilo, not required.
Divundu In the village Divundu, which lies 200 kilometres east of Rundu, there is a petrol station, but it is sometimes out of stock. Divundu lies at the Bagani Bridge over the Okavango. One has to cross the river, because it takes a turn to the south-east and flows into the Okavango Delta. |

Border Mohembo / Shakawe From Divundu a road leads to the border with Botswana. The border post Mohembo / Shakawe is open from 7 to 18:00. The road A35 to Maun is tarred.
