Caprivi Game Reserves : Travel Information and Accommodation
|
Bwabwata National Park For travelling the tarred Trans-Caprivi-Highway (B8) no permit is required. The park doesn't provide accommodation, but there are private lodges. Visitors to the Mahango Game Park in the west can spend the night at a campsite at the Popa Falls.
C49 Road to Katima Mulilo This untarred alternative road leads along the Linyanti River (in the north called Kwando and in Botswana Chobe) to the National Parks Mudumu and Mamili and further to Katima Mulilo. Also east of Mamili this is a very scenic route. The road has some rough patches (corrugated, sandy), but outside the rainy season it is manageable in a normal car. A four-wheel drive would be more comfortable, though.
Mudumu National Park This park lies in the eastern Caprivi. Near Kongola turn off onto the C49 to the south. One needs a 4x4 to visit this park, because the roads are sandy and in parts muddy, more so from December to March. At the park entrance a fee of N$80 per person is payable and N$10 for the vehicle. No accommodation in the park, but there are beautiful private lodges in the vicinity. |

Mamili National Park The C49 is also the access road to this smaller National Park. Some kilometres east of the settlement Sangwali lies the entrance to the reserve. For a visit a four-wheel-drive is absolutely necessary. During the rainy season, from December to May, one should not consider going there at all. At the park entrance a fee of N$80 per person is payable and N$10 for the vehicle. Two basic campsites, Nzalu and Lyadura, belong to the park. They don't offer any service. Visitors have to be completely self-reliant. In the vicinity there are nice private lodges.
