Spitzkoppe Rest Camp
Some years ago there was a robbery at Spitzkoppe where a tourist came to death. The local Damara community then barred the formerly free access to the Spitzkoppe. The area around the mountain massif was declared a conservancy and fenced off. Now, day visitors pay an entrance fee of 20 Rand per person, the vehicle costs 10 Rand.

A restcamp was established with a guarded campground and plain bungalows with 2 or 3 beds. The bungalows cost 140 N$ per person (including breakfast). A camping spot costs 50 N$ per person. There are a bar and a curio shop, so the community can reap some benefit from tourism. Guided tours and climbing expeditions are offered. Ameib
At the road 1937 in the Erongo Mountains, lies the farm Ameib, which is also open for day visitors. The scenery is spectacular there and can be explored on beautiful walks. In the Phillips Cave, numerous rock paintings can be seen including the famous "White Elephant". The huge granite boulders of Bull's Party are particularly interesting. Ameib offers a campground, chalet accommodation and a restaurant. Tel: 064-530803.

Usakos
The village of Usakos lies 30 kilometres west of Karibib at the B2. It was once founded as a railway station for the line from Swakopmund to Windhoek. An old engine from the year 1912 can still be seen standing in front of the station. There is a number of beautiful colonial buildings, a petrol station, shopping facilities, a shop with rocks and rock crystals and boys offering African toys made from wire.
