Klaus-Jochen Mais-RischeOmbili Foundation
Some concerned farmers from the Tsumeb region got together in the year 1989 to start a project in aid of the San (Bushmen). For decades they had employed them as farm workers and could sympathise with their problems. Their aim was to help at least a few of the Namibian 'natives', traditional nomads, to settle down and to change their attitude of "The day comes - the day gives". That same year the Ombili Project got underway. Klaus-Jochen Mais-Rische offered his farm Hedwigslust and gave 300 San a new home. Ombili now has a school and the San learn craftsmanship, how to keep cattle and grow maize and beans. You can make an appointment to visit Ombili. The farm lies on the 3001, north-east of the Namutoni Gate of the Etosha Park. Contact: Mrs. Beate Mais-Rische. Tel 067-230050.
