Buitepos / Mamuno Grenzposten The border to Botswana lies 110 kilometres east of Gobabis. The name of the border post is Buitepos on the Namibian and Mamuno on the Botswana side. From the border it is another 500 kilometres on a tarred road to Maun. More information on the Gobabis Info page. Maun AirportThe airport of Maun in Botswana (IATA: MUB) is serviced from Windhoek by Air Namibia and Air Botswana. From here, charter flights with small aircraft to various destinations in the Okavango Delta, to the Chobe National Park and the Victoria Falls are being offered. The airport boasts a 2000 metre long tarred runway. It lies 5 kilometres out of town. Taxis and shuttle buses are available at the airport. Attractions in Maun The Nhabe Museum mainly exhibits arts&crafts from the area and gives information on the plants and animals of Botswana. It is open daily except Sundays. Interesting is also the Maun Educational Park on the eastern banks of the Thamalakane River. The park is 2,5 square kilometres in size and presents many of the animals of Botswana like various species of antelope, giraffes, zebras and many others. Moremi Game Reserve This park - teeming with game - lies some 100 kilometres north of Maun. To access the park one first takes the tarred road to Shorobe and from there a dirt road. After passing the control post at the Veterinary Control Fence the going gets rough, with soft sand, only negotiable by 4x4 vehicles. The landscape is of stunning African beauty. The route leads through Mopane and Acacia bushland, interspersed with golden-yellow grass savannah. After another 30 kilometres one gets to the Khwai River, where the park office is located. Coming from the north, one first has to cross the picturesque but frighteningly shaky Khwai River Bridge constructed entirely from Mopane logs.In Khwai there is a public campground, rather basic but very clean. There is no petrol station in the entire Moremi Game Reserve and no shopping facilities. One should get all provisions beforehand in Maun. Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for Moremi.
