Old German FortMuseum
Grootfontein's local history museum is located in the restored old fort "Deutsche Feste" in Dr Nicky Iyambo Street. Today, it is a National Monument. The museum documents the history of the town, the Dorstland Trek and displays a historical wagonmaker workshop and a forge. Opening hours: Tuesdays to Fridays: 16h00 to 18h00, Wednesdays 9h00 to 11h00 and on request, also at other times. No entrance fee. Tel 067 242351
Public Swimming Pool
Grootfontein has a nice public pool, which lies next to the Olea Caravan Park in Woodlands Drive. Here, one can set up a nice camp or rent a basic chalet for little money. The communal retreat also offers a restaurant. Tel 067 243101.
Ostrich Farm
6 kilometers north-west of the town, on Pad D2859, lies the ostrich farm of Thekla and Udo Unkel. It is open for visitors. You can learn just about everything there is to do with ostriches and their breeding habits. Tel 067 242277.

The Hoba meteorite lies 24 kilometres west of Grootfontein on the Pad 2860 (Farm Hoba). The meteorite is a National Monument since 1955. There is a little shop close by.
