Orange River Lodge

Orange River Lodge
Noordoewer / Orange River

The lodge lies directly in the border town of Noordoewer, next to the BP petrol station, 600 metres before the river.

We offer 3 family rooms and 4 double rooms, each with a small kitchen. All rooms have a private bathroom, aircondition, TV and tea/coffee making facility.

In the thatched lapa restaurant breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. We have a nice bar with typical Namibian atmosphere.

A beautiful campground lies directly at the banks of the Orange river with a view of the Richtersveld mountains.

The lodge organises four-hour scenic drives through the grandiose landscapes along the Orange river as well as canoe trips on the river.

The Orange River Lodge is, after all, not just an overnight stay.

Rates (Bed only): Single room N$325, Double room N$450, Family room N$570. Breakfast per person N$40.

Dear Msimanga and Readers

We are very disappointed, and shocked to read about your experience staying at our establishment, especially after we have never before (or after) your stay heard any complaints regarding these matters or any other from you or any other clients.

We get regular inspections from the Health department and also from Namibia Tourism Board, who are very strict in these matters. Our latest inspection was on the 6th of June 2011 and I will be glad to send the inspection letter to anyone who inquires.

We will be honest and admit that our establishment as any other guest house, lodge, hotel est. battle against insect infestations (cockroaches being one of them) every now and again. As it is common knowledge that these insects tend to travel from there homes in luggage, clothes, purses est. to new arias. But we never had a problem with these insect as we fumigate and insecticide every two weeks.

Our establishment also replaces our bedding every 6th months, as it tends to get threadbare being washed after every time used by a guest. I cannot comment on the blanket because it was never brought to our attention, as with the other allegations.

We invite anyone to come and view our rooms. We pride ourselves, to try, to the best of our abilities, to cater to all our guests different needs. We are proud to say that 99% of our clients are satisfied and happy with our service, food, staff and rooms.

Kind regards
Management

Not Worth the 3 Stars

We stayed overnight and were offered a double room - room number 5. The place is cockroach infested. The bed linen is threadbare. We asked for an extra blanket and were given a filthy one with giant hairballs (dogs/cats) on it. The blanket also had some nasty looking stains on it - looked like blood and vomit. The room did not have a kettle as advertised (we had to ask the staff for one).

On the plus side, the staff is very friendly.

On the whole, avoid this place and just drive a few miles down the road to other places that will offer better value for money.
